Equine Awareness &Communication

Horses have been a big part of my life for 30 years; having experienced pony club, competition and rescue...and everything in between! I was never fortunate enough, as a child, to own a pony so until I was able to buy my own, found myself having to 'put up' with those horses nobody else wanted to deal with! I came across a lot of troubled and challenging horses and had to learn to communicate with them. I had no choice ...we had to get on....

What they have taught me about myself, let alone about them is something I wonder at daily.

I'm not a convert to 'natural horsemanship'; it's all I know. I was never comfortable with the 'traditional' horse world and found myself on the outside looking in much of the time. My ideas and unconventional ways were not welcomed by many so I was often a lone-voice in my quest!

I ultimately rejected the conventional and although years ago I completed all the BHS Horse Owners Certificates; I never felt compelled to want to pursue any 'normal' courses of which I make no apology. I feel that horse owners shouldn't feel under pressure to abide by a certain set of rules when it comes to horses and should follow the path that makes the most sense individually. The greatest education anyone can receive is by spending time with experienced people you trust and the horse itself. I make it my business to understand different elements of the horseworld and the people within it and their methods and I've been very fortunate to spend valuable time with such people. Most importantly the more understanding of what motivates the horse will give more answers than anything else; then you can use this to move in any direction much more successfully.

A great proportion of my clients have confidence issues and a lot of what I do centres on them and not necessarily the horse. I feel often they are over-looked and need support; it means that the work we do together can continue after I have gone home! I primarily work with the handler to learn to 'speak' to their horse and for the horse to want to listen. ********************************************************************

I live in a beautiful hamlet just outside Bath and my own horses enjoy living as a herd on 15 acres referred to as 'Rescue Ranch'! Many people come to experience and learn about how they interact and I hold sessions there. I also travel to see horse and handler and try to keep millage costs to a minimum.
