Therapy Horses

Meet Becky - she is a very special pony who is wonderful with children having grown up from a yearling with my daughter of the same age! She is an 18 year old British Riding Pony, dark bay and 12.2hh; very pretty and totally unflappable!

Some years ago friends came to visit my horses with their children and in particular to see Becky who is famed for her sweet and patient nature. During the fun and games the families were having, Becky seemed very distracted by one child who suffered from Epilepsy. She followed him up and down and even when he left the paddock she hung over the fence next to him. A few minutes later he had an Epileptic attack. In fact all the horses gathered quietly near the fence and as he came round Becky chatted softly to him and the horses returned to graze. There were several adults and children who were all taken aback by the events and all left convinced of the power of animals and how they have the ability to heal and teach just by 'being'.

Since then Becky has always been the horse of choice for therapy and teaching. She helps adults with fear issues and children to learn handling skills. Having spent a lot of time working with her she now is available for children under the Autistic Spectrum or any other learning disability.

You are welcome to make an appointment to come visit her and the other horses too. Your child can groom, feed and generally 'hang out' with her in a safe coral with their parent/carer and me to guide and advise. You are also welcome to bring with you any person involved in your child's education who might like to use the session as part of their on-going developement.

The sessions are free.

Call for a chat about your child and more about Becky and our other smallie, Fenella!
